Mrs Jeanné Oosthuysen
CEU Contributor: Dental Assisting

Jeanné Oosthuysen obtained the diploma in Oral Hygiene at the University of Stellenbosch in 1979. She started her 17-year career in orthodontics as an oral hygienist in an orthodontic practice in Bloemfontein. In 1997, Jeanné began lecturing for dental assistants at the Central University of Technology, Free State (former Technikon Free State) and, in 1998, she obtained the Advanced Diploma in Oral Hygiene (Orthodontics) at the University of Pretoria (Cum Laude). Since 1999, she has been involved in research projects in infection control in the dental practice and presents this work annually at the regional Congress of the International Association of Dental Research. In 2004, Jeanné was elected as member of the Executive Committee of the Dental Materials Group of the International Association of Dental Research. She is currently reading toward her PhD, researching "The development of Infection Control Guidelines for oral health care providers in South Africa".

Jeanné has three children, two teenage boys and a younger daughter, and her hobbies include hiking and sports. She has completed the Two Oceans 21km marathon in 2004, the OFM Classic Cycling race (30km) in 2005, 2006 and 2007, and the Midmar Mile (swimming) annually since 2006.
